The Constanzehof

This is the home of success

Constanzehof is idyllically situated in the heart of the Holstein breeding region on the banks of the River Stör. It is here, around 50 kilometres north of Hamburg in the marshland near the North Sea, that the success of the Holsteiner sport horses from Constanzehof originated. For decades, professional breeding has produced high-performance, robust partners for demanding equestrian sport.

From day one, our stud farm has high standards when it comes to rearing Holsteiner horses – which is why we are consciously responsible for every step from birth to performance testing. We breed, train and prepare stallions for licensing. We even obtain the majority of our feed at Constanzehof. Our 40 to 50 horses, which grow up in herds, have plenty of space for species-appropriate husbandry on extensive, lush marsh pastures totalling 120 hectares. They also have large, open loose boxes. This ensures that our Holsteins grow up healthy and resilient.

The Constanzehof has been owned by the Jahr family since 1952 and is now run by the third generation of the family. In 1956, the family purchased the first Holsteiner mares from the 1571 line, when the then stud manager Fiete von Soosten, together with breeding consultant Gerd Prien, significantly expanded the breeding programme. They acquired the mare Bizarre by Cromwell/Maiki from line 890, which later produced the internationally successful mare Frimella by Freemanxx/Cromwell under Alois Paulmann-Schweckhorst. The stud manager and breeding consultant also discovered the mare Prinzesschen by Freischäler/Diamond from line 4063, who was the source of many successful horses and licensed stallions at Constanzehof.

In recent years, the stud farm has continued to acquire new mares with interesting pedigrees in order to further diversify the mare lines. What once began with carriage horses has developed into an extremely successful sport horse breeding programme with a focus on show jumping. The team at Constanzehof has always managed to successfully harmonise classic values and modern breeding methods. With one principle: The best for the horse. We uphold this conviction from generation to generation.
